79.9% of the population of 6 years of age and older accessed to the Internet in the second quarter of 2024

The National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI), in the technical report Statistics of Information and Communication Technologies in the Households, informed that during the second quarter of the year 2024, 79.9% of the population of 6 years of age and older of the country used the Internet, increasing in 2.3 percentage points compared with the same quarter of 2023 (77.6%).
According to residence area, in Lima Metropolitan area the user population of the Internet reached 91.2%, it means, 2.2 percentage points more than in the second quarter of the year 2023 (89.0%). In the rest urban area (excluding Lima Metropolitan area), increased in 1.5 percentage points, by going from 80.2% to 81.7% and in the rural area in 3.9 percentage points, by going from 51.9% to 55.8%.
It increased the male population that uses the Internet
During the quarter under analysis, 81.5% of the male population of 6 years of age and older accessed to the Internet, being 3.2 percentage points more than their women pairs (78.3%). Compared with the same quarter of the year 2023, women that accessed to the Internet increased in 3.0 percentage points and men in 1.6 percentage points.
96.2% of the population of 19 to 24 years of age uses the Internet
The results of the National Household Survey (ENAHO) revealed that 96.2% of the population of 19 to 24 years of age accessed to the Internet, followed by the population of 25 to 40 years of age, with 93.0%, and in the group of 12 to 18 years of age, with 91.9%. In the population of 41 to 59 years of age this proportion reached to 79.4%; reached 62.6% in the group of 6 to 11 years of age, and reached 47.0% in the population of 60 years of age and older.
98.4% of the population with university superior education used the Internet
During the quarter under analysis, 98.4% of the population with university education level uses in greater proportion of the Internet service, followed by 96.2% of the population with non-university superior education level. Meanwhile, in the user population with primary education level was of 52.5% and in that population with secondary education level, 88.9%.
90% of the population accessed to the Internet through a cellphone
During the second quarter of the year 2024, 90.0% of the population of 6 years of age and older of the country that used the Internet, accessed to the Internet through a cellphone (it has been considered: cellphone with and without data plan).
This access reached 93.2% of the user population that lives in Lima Metropolitan area, 88.5% to the rest urban area and 86.5% of the rural area.
95.5% of households have at least one member with cellphone
According to the ENAHO results, during the second quarter of 2024, 95.5% of the households of the country has at least one member with cellphone, a higher figure in 0.5 percentage point compared to the same quarter of the last year (95.0%).
According to residence are, the coverage in Lima Metropolitan area increased from 97.1% to 98.1%, followed by the rural area, followed by the rural area, from 87.7% to 88.2%. Meanwhile, in the rest of urban area did not show variation.
