Potable water production reduced 2.5% in Lima Metropolitan area In the month of August of 2024

The National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI) informed that according to the data provided by the National Service of Potable Water and Sewerage Service of Lima (SEDAPAL), during the month of August of 2024, the potable water production in Lima Metropolitan area reached 64 million 745 thousand cubic meters, inferior figure in 2.5% compared to the same month of 2023 (66 million 389 thousand m3).
The flow of the Rimac and Chillon Rivers grows
In the technical report Environmental Statistics also stated that in August of 2024, the Flow of the Rimac River reached 20,83 m3/s, a higher figure in 35.3% compared to the same month of the last year; nevertheless, it decreased in 1.7% compared to its historical average.
According to the information of the National Service of Meteorology and Hydrology (SENAMHI), the flow of the Chillon River reached 2,18 m3/s, higher in 47.3% and 28.2% compared to the month of August of 2023 and to its historic average, respectively.
The flow of the South Pacific rivers increases
During the month under analysis, the flow of the Pacific rivers registered an increase in their flows. In the case of Santa River totalized 1,62 m3/s which represented an increase of 78.0% and 25.6% compared to the registered in August of 2023 and its historic average, respectively. Meanwhile, the flow of Ica River (2.08 m3/s) grew 19.5% compared to the same month of the last year and lower in 78.7% compared to its historic average, respectively.
On the other hand, the flow of the Ocoña River reached 36,63 m3/s higher in 4.0% compared to the month of August of the last year and lower in 10.7% compared to its historic average. The flow of Camana River (29,76 m3/s) grew in 13.2 % compared to the month of August of 2023, but lower in 14.3% compared to its historic average. On the other hand, the flow of Pisco River totalized 4.44 m3/s, which represented a decrease of 12.4% and 60.4% compared to the same month of 2023 and to its historic average, respectively.
Rainfalls in the center zone of the Pacific watershed reduce
In August of 2024 and according to the information of the National Service of Meteorology and Hydrology (SENAMHI), no rainfalls were registered in the center zone of the Pacific Ocean watershed, in Matucana station, which indicated a decrease of 100.0% compared to its historic average. (0,30 mm).
Tacna and Puno registered the lowest temperatures
In August of 2024 and according to the monitoring of 18 stations of the SENAMHI, the lowest temperatures were registered in the stations located in the departments of Tacna and Puno. The stations that registered the highest intensity of frosts were: Chaupalca (-18.0° C) and Bocatoma (-14.2°C) in Tacna; and in the stations of Mazo Cruz (-18 °C), Santa Rosa (-14.2 °C), Cojata (-12.6 °C), Macusani (-12.0 °C), Ananea (-11.2 °C), Crucero Alto (-11.0 °C) and Desaguadero (-7.7 °C) in the department of Puno.
In addition, there were registered low temperatures in the stations of Imata (-15.2 °C), Pillones (-14.6 °C), Salinas (-11.4 °C) and Tisco (-10.9 °C) in the department of Arequipa. Likewise, in the stations of Laive (-9.2 °C) and La Oroya (-6.5 °C) in Junín; Cerro de Pasco (-6.8 °C) in Pasco; Sicuani (-6.0 °C) in Cusco; and in the station of Ubinas (-2.0 °C) in Moquegua.
Emergencies at national level totalized 395
During the month of August of 2024 and according to the information of the National Institute of Civil Defense (INDECI), were reported 395 emergencies at national level, figure that represented a decrease of 27.1% compared with the same month of 2023. The emergencies left 944 affected people, 1,504 affected households, 99 households destroyed and 379 hectares of crops destroyed.
The greater quantity of emergencies were registered in the departments of: Huancavelica (67), Cajamarca (45), Apurímac (39), Huánuco (31), Amazonas (26), Ayacucho, Piura and San Martín (17 each one), Junín, La Libertad and Lima Province (16 each one), Loreto (13), Cusco, Pasco and Puno (11 each one), Arequipa (10), Ucayali (8), Tacna (7), Ica (5), Moquegua (4), Ancash (3), Lambayeque and Lima Metropolitan area (2 each one), Madre de Dios (1) and finally, Callao, and Tumbes did not reported emergencies.
The emergencies were mainly caused by: strong winds (120), urban fires (96), forest fires (50), decrease of temperature (37), frosts (33), storms (winds with rains) (21), heavy rains (11), collapsing of housings (9), landslide (8), hills collapse and cold wave (2 in each case) and hailstorms, flood by river overflood, reptation, accidents of transportation by river ways, accidents by means of transport by land and flood by channels overflood (1 in each case).
