The employed population increased in 4.6% during the quarter June-July-August of 2024 in Lima Metropolitan area

The employed population in Lima Metropolitan area increased in 4.6% (242 thousand 300 persons), during the mobile quarter June-July-August 2024, compared to the same mobile quarter of the last year. This was informed by the National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI) in the technical report Situation of the Labor Market in Lima Metropolitan area, prepared with the result of the Permanent Survey of National Employment (EPEN), which stated that the employed population reached 5 million 467 thousand 900 persons.
According to sex, the male population with employment increased in 5.0% (141 thousand 900) and the female population increased in 4.2% (100 thousand 400). Likewise, the total of the employed population, 54.1% (2 million 956 thousand 700) are men and 45.9% (2 million 511 thousand 200) are women.
Greater incorporation of population of 25 years of age and older to the labor market
In the technical report that INEI disseminates, it was observed the increase of 9.4% (179 thousand 800 persons) of the employed population of 45 years of age and older, followed by the employed population of 25 to 44 years of age with 3.1% (81 thousand 200). Meanwhile, the employed population under 25 years of age decreased in 2.6% (18 thousand 600 persons less).
Labor market of Lima Metropolitan area demands population with superior education
During the quarter under analysis, the employed population of all educational levels increased, outstanding the increase of the employed population with university education in 5.2% (78 thousand) and those that achieved to have non-university superior education level in 4.6% (53 thousand). In addition, those that have secondary education level increased in 4.6% (101 thousand 300) and the population with primary, early or without any education level initial increased in 2.8% (10 thousand).
Employed population in Manufacturing sector increased in 16.1%
During the quarter under study, the employed population in the Manufacturing sector grew in 16.1% (109 thousand 300 persons), followed by Commerce in 4.1% (49 thousand 600) and Services 2.9% (83 thousand 200). Meanwhile, in the Construction sector decreased 0.2% (700 persons less).
Employed population in the economic units of 1 to 10 workers increased in 5.2%
According to the size of company, the employed population increased in 5.2% (165 thousand 600) in the economic units of 1 to 10 workers, followed by those that work in companies of 51 and more employed, with 4.1% (59 thousand 200), and in the companies of 11 to 50 employees in 2.9% (17 thousand 600).
Population with suitable employment increased in 5.3%
During the quarter under analysis, the employed population with suitable employment in Lima Metropolitan area increased in 5.3% (163 thousand 500) compared to the same quarter of the year 2023, reaching a population properly employed of 3 million 245 thousand 900 persons.
On the other hand, the underemployed population in Lima Metropolitan area increased in 3.7% (78 thousand 900), getting an underemployed population of 2 million 222 thousand persons.
Unemployment rate of Lima Metropolitan area placed in 6.1%
During the mobile quarter June-July-August 2024, the unemployment rate of Lima Metropolitan area placed in 6.1%. Compared with the same quarter of the year 2023 (6.6%), decreased in 0.5 percentage point. It is estimated that 353 thousand 100 persons sought employment actively.
The average monthly income increased in 2.9%
During the mobile quarter June-July-August 2024, the average monthly income coming from work in Lima Metropolitan area placed in 2,006.90 Soles, a superior figure in 2.9% (56.30 Soles) to the registered in the same quarter of the year 2023.
Average monthly income increased in 4.9% in the population of 45 years of age and older
By comparing the mobile quarter under analysis with the same period of the year 2023, the average monthly income increased in the group of 45 years of age and older in 4.9% (104.70 Soles), in the group of 25 to 44 years of age increased in 0.9% (18.60 Soles). Meanwhile, in the population under 25 years of age decreased in 1.1% (-13.0 Soles).
Average monthly income increased in all education levels
According to the education level, the average monthly income increased in all education levels.
Therefore, among those that have university education level increased in 4.3% (130.0 Soles), in the population with secondary education level increased in 2.3% (33.6 Soles), in the population with non-university superior education level increased in 0.6% (9.6 Soles), and those that studied primary, early or without any education level initial increased in 0.4% (4.5 Soles).
