In Peru were created more than 70 thousand companies between April and June of 2024

In the second quarter of 2024, the number of active companies registered in the Central Directory of Companies and Establishments was 3 million 368 thousand 634 companies, a figure that represented an increase of 3.5% compared to the same quarter of the year 2023; this was informed by the National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI) in the Technical Report Business Demography in Peru, being its main source the Taxpayers' Register of the National Superintendency of Customs and Tax Administration (SUNAT).

Likewise, the INEI informed that they created or reactivated (registered) 70 thousand 567 companies between April and June of 2024, meanwhile 109 thousand 144 companies closed their activities, where the official de-registrations represent 90.8%, this was due to the SUNAT, main supplier of original administrative records, continues in a verification process of those records mentioned.

The INEI informed that during the quarter under study, 11 thousand 718 companies were discharged as limited companies, which meant an increase of 3.8% compared to the same period of 2023.

The greater number of companies registered were presented in the activities of Accommodation (137.2%), Exploitation of Mines and Quarries (49.4%), Transportation and Storage (20.1%), Sales and Repair of Vehicles (20.0%), and Activities of service of foods and beverages (16.0%).

According to economic activity, the greater percentage of closed companies were registered in the Commerce (38.9%), followed by Other services (16.9%), Manufacturing Industries (9.4%) and Transportation and storage (9,3%) sectors.

During the second quarter of 2024, in Lima Metropolitan area created 24 thousand 86 companies, outstanding by locating the greater part of the entrepreneurial base. The figure represented 34.1% of the total, which indicated that of every ten new companies, three started activities in the capital of the country. Likewise, 37 thousand 892 companies in Lima Metropolitan area discharges from their activities, that represented 34.7% of the total of companies.

According to forms of legal organization, natural persons with business represented the 60.9%, followed by those businesses constituted as limited business (16.6%) and those that operated as under individual company of limited liability (13.4%), among the most significative.

In Peru were registered 42 thousand 998 companies discharged by natural persons, from which 22 thousand 880 companies were led by women, representing the 53.2% of the total; which evidenced a greater participation of women in the conduction of this type of entrepreneurships.

In 21 departments of Peru were registered a greater participation of women that led registered companies of natural persons. These are: Huancavelica (61.6%),Tacna (61.0%), Puno (59.3%), Piura (59.0%), Loreto (57.2%), Ica and Moquegua (56.9% each one), Cusco (56.7%), Arequipa (56.5%), Madre de Dios and Junín (55.1% each one), Huánuco (53.7%), Tumbes (53.4%), Ayacucho (52.9%), Lambayeque (52.6%), Cajamarca (51.7%), Amazonas (51.5%), La Libertad and San Martín (51.4% each one), Lima (50.8%), and Ancash (50.1%), besides of the Constitutional Province of Callao (50.5%).

According to economic activity, the Beauty Parlours (71.8%), Activities of foods and beverages services (63.5%), Activities of attention of human health (63.0%), Retail Commerce (61.3%), Wholesale Commerce (57.0%), Manufacturing Industries (54.8%) and Real Estate Activities (52.7%) registered a greater female representation.

According to economic activity, men registered a greater percentage in the conduction of entrepreneurships of productive units related to the activities of Construction (81.7%); Exploitation of mines and quarries (79.3%); Transportation and Storage (76.4%); Sales and repair of vehicles (68.9%); Information and communications (65.3%); Artistic, entertainment and recreational activities; and Agriculture, livestock, silviculture and fishing (63.1% each one), among the main ones.
