The proportion of women and men that have health insurance increases

In the second quarter of 2024 and according to the results of the National Household Survey (ENAHO), women that have health insurance represented the 91.7% and men 88.6%. Compared to the same period of 2023, the proportion of women and men increased in 2.8 and 2.9 percentage points, respectively.
This was informed by the National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI) in the technical report, Statistics with Gender Perspective, where it stated that the percentage of women with health insurance overcomes the percentage of men with health insurance in 3.1 percentage points.
Increases the number of women and men that accesses to the Comprehensive Health Insurance
According to the type of health insurance, and according to the ENAHO of the second quarter of the current year, women and men that are affiliated to the Comprehensive Health Insurance (SIS) represented the 64.5% and 59.9%, respectively. Compared to the same period of 2023, these proportions elevated in 4.0 and 4.4 percentage points, in women and men, respectively.
Meanwhile, women that have the ESSALUD insurance represented the 22.6% and with other type of health insurance 4.7%. In the case of men, these proportions represented the 23.0 and 5.7% for those that accesses to the ESSALUD insurance and other type of insurance.
Grew the proportion of households with some beneficiary member of social programs
During the second quarter of the year 2024, at national level, there are 34.4% male-headed households and 29.1% female-headed households accessed to food programs. Compared to the registered in the same period of 2023, the male-headed households, with some beneficiary member of food programs increased in 1.6 percentage points and female-headed households in 0.5 percentage point.
According with the type of social program, 18.2% of households headed by men and 13.8% of households headed by women, had among their members some child under 13 years of age that benefited with the “Vaso de Leche” program. Compared to the same quarter of 2024, these proportions increased in 1.2 and 1.9 percentage points, respectively.
In the case of the households benefited with school lunches, those male-headed households reached 34.9% and in those female-headed households reached 25.9% which means an increase of 1.9 and 5.0 percentage points, compared to the same last period, respectively.
Increases the school attendance of women and men to primary and secondary education
During the period under analysis, the school attendance rate to primary education of the girls of 6 to 11 years of age was of 99.3% and of boys was 98.9%. Compared to the same period of the last year, the attendance in the girls and boys increased in 1.3 and 1.0 percentage point, respectively.
Regarding to the attendance of women and men adolescents to secondary education school, it is appreciated that the secondary education attendance rate of women adolescents was of 91.1% and that of men adolescents was of 91.8%. Compared to the same quarter of the last year, at national level, the men assistance rate increased in 1.9 percentage points and of women in assistance rate increased in 1.6 percentage points.
The proportion of women and men that use the Internet increases
During the period under analysis, 78.3% of women and 81.5% of men used the Internet. Compared to the second quarter of the last year, the percentage of women and men that used the Internet increased in 3.0 and 1.6 percentage points, respectively.
According to the frequency of use, 92.1% of women and 91.3% of men of the population of 6 years of age and over daily use of the Internet. Those that used the Internet once a week reached 7.4% and 8.1% of women and men, respectively; meanwhile that in those that used the Internet once a month or every two months or more, represented the 0.6% in women and men.
More women work in the Services and Commerce activities
During the second quarter of 2024 and according to the results of the Permanent Survey of National Employment (EPEN), 70.3% of women that work had been inserted in the branches of activity of Services and Commerce; meanwhile that men that worked in the mentioned sectors reached 54.4%. In Agriculture/Fishing/Mining are working 20.9% of women and 25.9% of men; meanwhile, in Manufacturing works 7.9% and 9.1% of women and men, respectively. In Construction works 10.5% of men and just 0.9% of women.
More proportion of men than women access to the financial system
During the period under analysis and according to the ENAHO results, 60.4% of men and 56.5% of women of 18 years of age and over had some account in the financial system (savings account, fixed-term account or current-account). Therefore, the proportion of men is higher in 3.9 percentage points compared to that proportion of women.
According to the age, it is appreciated that in all age groups, the proportion of men that had some account in the financial system was superior to that proportion of women. In men of 18 to 29 years of age that mentioned percentage represented 64.8%, in those of 30 to 59 years of age reached 59.4% and among those that are 60 years of age and over reached 57.2%. In the case of women, these proportions represented 61.2% (of 18 to 29 years of age), 57.8% (of 30 to 59 years of age) and 46.3% (of 60 years of age and over).
