Attendance to primary and secondary school increased

According to the results of the National Households Survey (ENAHO), in the second quarter of the current year, the attendance rate to primary school placed in 99.1%; compared to the same quarter of the year 2023, increased in 1.1 percentage points. Likewise, the attendance rate to secondary school grew in 1.8 percentage points, from 89.7% to 91.5%. This was informed by the National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI) in the technical report State of Childhood and Adolescence, that disseminated on a quarterly basis.
According to area of residency, the attendance to primary school increased in the urban area in 1.2 percentage points, by going from 98.0% to 99.2%, and in the rural area, in 0.8 percentage point, by going from 97.8% to 98.6%.
On the other hand, the attendance to secondary school, increased both in the urban as well as rural area. In the urban area increased in 1.5 percentage points, by going from 90.5% to 92.0% and in the rural area, in 2.7 percentage points, by going from 87.0% to 89.7%.
The population of 14 to 17 years of age that just study increased
The INEI informed that, during the second quarter of 2024, 71.5% of the adolescent population of 14 to 17 years of age, is dedicated just to study, a higher figure in 5.9 percentage points compared to the same quarter of 2023 (65.6%). By residence area, 75.8% of adolescents of 14 to 17 years of age of the urban area, and 56.2% of the rural area, just to study.
The population of 6 to 17 years of age that has accessed to the Internet grew
During the second quarter of 2024, 77.1% of girls, boys and adolescents of 6 to 17 years of age, use of the Internet service, it means 2.2 percentage points more than in the second quarter of the year 2023 (74.9%).
During the quarter under analysis, 87.4% of the population of 6 to 17 years of age accessed to the Internet through the cellphone and 30.6% used the Internet in the household. Likewise, the accessed to the Internet increased in educational establishments in 2.8 percentage points, by going from 7.5% to 10.3%.
The population under 18 years of age affiliated to the Comprehensive Health Insurance increased
During the period April-May-June of 2024, 70.8% of the population under 18 years of age had coverage of the Comprehensive Health Insurance (SIS), percentage greater in 3.3 percentage points compared to the same quarter of 2023 (67.5%).

By residence area, the greater coverage was in the rural area (92.5%); meanwhile, in the urban area reached 64.7%, representing an increase of 1.2 and 4.0 percentage points compared to the second quarter of 2023.

In addition, 94.7% of boys, girls and adolescents had a health insurance coverage. In the rural area was of 97.3%, and in the urban this coverage reached 94.0%.
50.8% of the households of the country have among their members at least one person under 18 years of age
During the quarter of April-May-June 2024, 50.8% of the households have among their members at least one girl, boy or adolescent, being greater in the urban area (51.5%) than in the rural area (48.1%).
