Fishing sector increased 14.86% in July of 2024 and added four months of consecutive growth

In July 2024, the Fishing sector increased in 14.86% compared to the same month of the last year and added four months of continuous positive behavior. This was informed by the National Institute of Statistics and Informatic (INEI) in the technical report Conjuncture Progress of Economic Activity.
This positive behavior was supported in the growth of fishing of maritime origin in 26.02%, due to the greater extraction of species intended for indirect human consumption (anchovy resource for fishmeal and fish oil); achieving to extract 39,203 tons that against the 43 tons registered in July of 2023, were translated in an increase of 39,160 tons. The mentioned capture was mainly due in the ports of the South such as Mollendo and Ilo.
Additionally, the landing of species for direct human consumption grew 14.28%, due to the greater fishing of species intended to the preparation of frozen (27.5%) canning (16.5%) and for consumption in fresh state (4.7%). Meanwhile it decreased the preparation of curing (-41.9%).
On the other hand, the fishing of continental origin contracted 28.21%, explained by the lower extraction of species in fresh state, for frozen and preparation of curing.
Production of Mining and Hydrocarbons sector increased in 3.10%
During the month under analysis, the Mining and Hydrocarbons sector increased in 3.10%, as a result of the greater metallic mining activity (0.67%). It influenced in this behavior the greater volume concentrated of molybdenum (38.0%), silver (16.6%), lead (8.9%), gold (4.5%) and tin (0.3%). Result that was counterbalanced almost in its totality due to the lower production of zinc (-16.1%), copper (-3.0%) and iron (-1.1%).
Likewise, the hydrocarbons subsector increased (21.55%), due to the greater production of natural gas liquids (32.3%), natural gas (15.3%) and exploitation of crude oil (14.0%).
Electricity generation increased in 3.65%
During the seventh month of the current year, the electricity generation increased 3.65%, as result of the greater generation of energy of hydroelectric origin (17.0%) and renewable energies (73.1%). Nevertheless, it reduced the generation of thermoelectric origin energy (-10.4%).
Among the main companies that increased its production outstood: Empresa de Generación Huallaga, Parque Eólico Tres Hermanas, Electroperú, Egasa, Fénix Power Perú, Kallpa Generación, Statkraft Perú, Termochilca and Engie Energia Peru.
General Government Investment Expenditure increased in 33.96%
In July of 2024, the General Government Investment Expenditure grew in 33.96% (S/4,752 million) compared to the same month of the year 2023, due to the increase of the investment in construction Works, and in machinery and equipment, in the three government areas.
The INEI also informed that the Consumption Expenditure of the General Government, in nominal terms, totalized S/ 11,657 million and showed an increase of 6.13% compared with July of 2023.
Granting of mortgage loans remain dynamic
During the month under analysis, the mortgage loans totalized S/ 65,099 million, increasing in 5.63% compared to July of 2023. On the other hand, consumption credits decreased in 3.25% (S/ 70,719 million) compared to July of 2023; likewise, it decreased the credits granted to big, medium, small corporations and micro-companies in 0.14%, placing in S/ 213,849 million.
On the other hand, the placement of credit cards of multiple banking placed in 6,280 thousand units. Observing a reduction of 4.81% compared to the same month of the last year.
Total amount imported increased in 13.84%
During the month under analysis, the total amount imported was of US$ 4,829 million, a higher figure in 13.84% compared to the value registered in July 2023.
This result was based in the acquisition of consumption goods, by registering a growth of 6.27% (US$ 974 million) compared to the value registered in the same month of 2023. Followed of the import of raw materials and intermediate products, by placing in US$ 2,515 million, increasing in 16.71% compared to the value of July 2023. Likewise, the import of capital goods and construction materials totalized US$ 1,340 million, increasing 14.96% compared to the same month of the year 2023.

Domestic cement consumption reduced in 0.50%
In July of the current year, the domestic cement consumption decreased in 0.50% due to the lower dynamism of private projects and self-construction. It is worth to mention that this indicator added three months in row of contractive results.
