Production of paddy rice grew 31% in June of 2024, with Piura and Lambayeque contributing with the 63.7% of the national production

During June of 2024, the production of paddy rice reached 609 thousand 9 tons and increased in 31.0% compared to the reported in June of the last year. This behavior was explained by the greater area harvested, due to the good thermic conditions that allow the development of this cereal.

In the Technical Report: Peru: Departmental Economic Outlook, prepared by the National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI) stated that the departments of Piura (125.7%) and Lambayeque (26.1%), contributed with the 63.7% of the total national production.
Likewise, showed positive results the following departments: Huánuco (139.2%), Ucayali (91.6%), Cajamarca (44.9%), Tumbes (8.8%), Loreto (5.6%) and Amazonas (1.5%); meanwhile among the departments that had the greatest negative impact were Arequipa (-31.2%) and San Martín (-13.0%).
Production of starchy maize reported a growth of 11.2%
During June of 2024, the production of hard yellow corn increased mainly in the departments of Amazonas (415.8%), Junín (77.5%), La Libertad (74.0%), Huancavelica (70.8%) and Huánuco (0.7%).
The national production increased in 11.2%, based in the increase of areas harvested and greater yields obtained, influenced by proper climatic factors that favored the maturing phase of the crop.
Six departments concentrated the 56.2% of the total of the potato production
In the sixth month of the current year, the potato production reduced mainly in the departments of Puno (-52.3%), Ayacucho (-34.6%), Cusco (-20.8%), Huancavelica (-18.4%), Apurímac (-13.0%) and Pasco (-3.0%); nevertheless, contributed with the 56.2% of the national total.
Meanwhile, it increased in Ica (173.1%), Piura (40.3%), Lima (33.3%), Junín (26.5%), Amazonas (5.7%), La Libertad (5.6%) and Ancash (5.4%).
At national level, showed a decrease of 13.3%, due to the water resource scarcity and the presence of diseases such the rust disease, that caused the reduction of harvests.
Four departments contributed with the 87.8% of the poultry production of the country
The INEI informed that the poultry production registered a growth in the producer zones of Lima (4.0%), La Libertad (1.3%), Arequipa (0.9%) and Ica (0.9%), which participated with the 87.8% of the poultry national production. Likewise, it increased in San Martín (3.9%), Lambayeque (0.5%) and Piura (0.2%).
Across the country, the poultry production increased in 2.5%, during June of the current year, as a result of the greater placement of BB chicken of the meat line.
Copper production registered a negative production
During June of 2024, the copper production contracted in 12.0%, explained by the low levels extracted from the Mining Chinalco Perú, Minera Antapaccay, Anglo American Quellaveco, Minera Las Bambas, Marcobre, El Brocal and Cerro Verde; dimmed by the greater extraction performed in the companies Southern Perú Copper Corporation and Antamina.
The departments that registered a reduction in the volumes produced, were Junín (-59.4%), Cusco (-32.8%), Ica (-21.1%), Apurímac (-13.3%), Moquegua (-11.2%) and Arequipa (-5.8%); in spite of this, they contributed with the 63.6% of the national total.
On the other hand, it grew in Huancavelica (104.4%), Tacna (37.2%), Huánuco (27.1%), Lima (9.8%) and Ancash (4.1%).
Six departments contributed in the decrease of the electric production
The production of electric energy, slightly decreased in 0.1%, due to the lower generation of thermic energy in the following power stations: Independencia, Santa Rosa I, Santa Rosa II, Ventanilla and Malacas II, among others. Meanwhile, it increased the generation of hydraulic and conventional energy (Eolic and solar).
Among the main departments that reported negative variations, were Ucayali (-73.2%), Moquegua (-42.6%), Cajamarca (-17.0%), Arequipa (-11.5%), Lima (-8.9%) and Piura (-6.8%); nevertheless, it concentrated the 62.7% of the total electricity generation.
On the other hand, it increased in Ancash (43.2%), Ica (41.0%), Huancavelica (38.6%), Cusco (17.8%) and Junín (11.4%).
Revenues Collected by Internal Taxes grew in 11.3%
During June of the current year, the revenues collected by internal taxes totalized 10 thousand 305 million 433 thousand Soles and were higher in 11.3% (9 thousand 260 million 631 thousand Soles), driven by the increase of the Income Tax (first, third and fifth category, non – domiciled and regularization); as well as, the Value Added Tax and the Selective Excise Tax.
It should be noted, the amount collected outstood in the departments of Arequipa (49.1%), Lima (11.4%) and La Libertad (0.03%), which together totalized the 93.3% of the total collected. Meanwhile, it decreased in Piura (-36.0%), Pasco (-35.0%), Huancavelica (-8.3%) and Apurímac (-4.0%).
