The INEI will participate in the meeting of the Executive Committee of the Statistical Conference of the Americas of ECLAC in Chile

The chief (e) of the National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI), Mr. Peter Abad Altamirano, shall represent Perú in the twenty-third meeting of the Executive Committee of the Statistical Conference of the Americas (SCA) of ECLAC. The event will be held in Santiago de Chile, from August 28th to 29th of 2024.
In the twenty-third Meeting of the Executive Committee of the SCA, subsidiary body of the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC), will discuss the lessons learned since the implementation of the existing Strategic Plan of the Committee, and the future challenges will be analyzed in three big areas:
i) organization and management of the National Offices of Statistics and the national statistical systems, including the statistical legislation, the relationship with other institutions that produce statistics and the management of human and technological resources;

ii) technical and methodological capacities, applied both to the sources of traditional data and to new sources of information, within a context of rapid technological development;
iii) aspects related with the regional and international coordination and cooperation and the means for which the SCA can encourage.
Likewise, during the meeting will be analyzed the progress of the execution of the Biennial Program of Activities of Regional and International Cooperation 2024-2025 of the SCA, related to thirteen groups of work approved by the Conference: peer review, census mapping, allocation of data, estimation in small areas, management of metadata, administrative records related with childhood, gender, indicators of well-being, forced displacement and migration, labor market, environmental statistics, agricultural statistical and crime statistics.
The Peruvian delegation is also integrated by Mrs. Nancy Hidalgo Calle, director of the National Direction of the INEI Census and Surveys, whom will also participate in the Regional Workshop "Evaluation of the population and housing census of the 2020 round facing the challenges of the 2030 round”.
It is worth to mention that Peru is a member of the Executive Committee of the SCA, together with Argentina, Bahamas, Spain, Granada, Mexico and Uruguay. In addition, Dominican Republic holds the presidency of the Committee.
