The INEI initiates the National Time Use Survey (ENUT)

The National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI), governing body of the National Statistical System, is pleased to announce the launch of the National Time Use Survey (ENUT), research that will allow to get a detailed overview about how people of different regions of the country distribute their time in different daily activities.
The main goal of the ENUT is to determine the differences between men and women regarding the distribution of the use of time in tasks or activities of daily life, necessary for personal, family and social development.
These data will be essential for the formulation of public policies that promote gender equality, social welfare, and the improve of quality of life in general. Likewise, it will make visible “women’s contribution to the family well-being and to the development of the society”.
The collaboration of the persons interviewed is important to guarantee that the results reflect in precise and representative manner the reality of all the population.
Process
The survey will be performed through the home visits by trained interviewers, who will apply an electronic questionnaire designed for gathering information of activities that persons perform throughout the day. The ENUT will perform in all the regions of the country after 14 years, which will allow to have information regarding to the use of time in work in the occupation, unpaid work and personal activities.
Collection period
The process of data collection will be executed during the months of August to October of the current year, covering a sample of 6,056 housings at national level.
The ENUT results will provide a solid basis for the design of policies that favor a fairer distribution of the time, the reduction of gender gaps, and the boost of measures that support the balance between the labor and personal life.
Privacy
The information provided by households have the character of secrecy and is confidential, may not be disclosed in individualized way, even when there is an administrative or judicial. Will be only used for statistical purposes (Article 97º of the Supreme Decree Nº 043-2001-PCM).
