Employed population of Lima Metropolitan area increased in 4.8% in the quarter May-June-July of 2024

During the mobile quarter May-June-July of the current year, the employed population of Lima Metropolitan area increased in 4.8% (252 thousand 900 persons) compared to the same mobile quarter of the year 2023, and totalized 5 million 476 thousand 300 persons. This was informed by the National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI) in the technical report Situation of the Labor Market in Lima Metropolitan area, prepared with the results of the Permanent Survey of National Employment (EPEN).
During the quarter under analysis, the population with suitable employment reached 3 million 211 thousand 100 persons and increased in 5.3% (161 thousand 500), meanwhile the underemployed population totalized 2 million 265 thousand 200 persons and increased in 4.2% (91 thousand 400 persons).
Female employed population increased in 6.6%
During the mobile quarter under investigation, the female employed population increased in 6.6% (157 thousand 400) and the male employed population in 3.4% (95 mil 500), with a gap of 3.2 percentage points. From the total of the employed population, 53.3% (2 million 919 thousand 300) are composed by men and 46.7% (2 millones 557 mil) are composed by women.
Employed population of 45 years of age and older increased in 9.6%
According to age groups, the population of 45 years of age and older registered a greater dynamism. Therefore, during the period under analysis, the employed population of this age group increased in 9.6% (182 thousand 500) and those that are 25 to 44 years of age, in 3.6% (94 thousand 500). Meanwhile, the employed population under 25 years of age decreased in 3.3% (24 thousand 100 persons less).
The employed population with university education level led increase
The INEI informed that the employed population with university education increased in 6.6% (97 thousand 600), followed by those that achieve to study high-school education 5.9% (127 thousand 500), non-university superior education 2.2% (26 thousand 400) and those that have primary or lower-level of education in 0.4% (1 thousand 500).
Labor market in Lima Metropolitan area was dynamized by the activities of Commerce and Construction
During the mobile quarter under analysis, the employed population registered an increase in all activity branches, nevertheless, the Commerce sector shower a greater dynamism that grew in 9.6% (109 thousand) and Construction, with 9.4% (33 thousand 400). Meanwhile, the Services sector increased in 3.3% (95 thousand 800) and the Manufacturing increased in 3.1% (22 thousand 400).
Unemployment rate was of 6.0%
During the mobile quarter May-June-July of 2024, the unemployment rate in Lima Metropolitan area was of 6.0%. It is estimated that 347 thousand 100 persons were seeking employment during the period under analysis.
Average monthly income coming from work in Lima Metropolitan area increased in 3.2%
During the month under analysis, the average monthly income coming from work in Lima Metropolitan area placed in 1,998.10 Soles. Compared with the same mobile quarter of the year 2023, increased in 3.2% (61.40 Soles).
In all age groups increased average monthly income coming from work
According to the age groups, the average monthly income increased in all age groups. Therefore, it grew 6.0% (122.7 Soles) in the age group of 45 years of age and older, it grew 1.0% (11.60 Soles) in young population of 14 to 24 years of age and 0.3% (5.6 Soles) in the group of 25 to 44 years of age.
Average monthly income of workers in the Services sector increased in 4.3%
During the quarter under analysis, the average monthly income of workers in the Services sector grew in 4.3% (87.30 Soles), followed by Construction sector grew in 3.4% (71.30 Soles) and Comercio sector grew in 0.5% (8.20 Soles). On the other hand, the Manufacturing sector decreased in 0.3% (-5.20 Soles).
