National production increased 0.21% in June of 2024

The national production in June of 2024 registered a growth of 0.21% compared to the same month of the last year. It was observed a positive behavior in the Other Services; Transportation, Storage and Courier; Commerce; Services of Government; Telecommunications; Services Rendered to Companies; Fishing; Accommodation and Restaurants, among others. Meanwhile the Mining and Hydrocarbons; Construction and Agricultural sectors had a contractive behavior.
The production of the most of economic sector in June 2024 was affected by a day les of productive activity, given that the June 7th was a national holiday this year, meanwhile that in 2023 was a working day.
In the technical report National Production, prepared by the National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI), it was noted that the productive activity of the country, during the first semester of this year, grew in 2.49%.
Agricultural production decreased in 1.62%
During the month under analysis, the Agricultural production decreased 1.62% due to the negative result of the agricultural subsector (-3.06%), by presenting a lower volume of production of olives (-79.9%), raw cotton (-69.4%), Caupí dried bean (-61.8%), potato (-13.3%), avocado (-10.0%), cacao (-7.2%) and coffee (-3.4%), before the lower area sown of the main crops.
Meanwhile that the livestock subsector showed a positive variation of 1.80% by the greater volumes of pig (4.3%), poultry (2.5%), beef (1.2%) and fresh milk (0.8%) production.
Fishing sector increased in 56.77%
The Fishing sector showed a progress of 56.77% explained by the greater extraction of species of maritime origin (74.85%), for indirect human consumption (anchovy for fishmeal and fish oil), extracting 241,565 tons in June 2024 that, compared with the 41,535 tons of the same month of 2023, was translated a growth of 481,59%.
The greater extraction of this resource was registered in the Center-North Zone of the coastline of the country, mainly in the ports of Chimbote, Malabrigo, Coishco, Callao and Tambo de Mora.
Likewise, the capture for direct human consumption grew 17.02%, of species intended to the canned industry (51.3%), preparation of frozen (23.1%) and for consumption in fresh state (10.1%). Meanwhile, it decreased for curing (-14.1%). Likewise, the fishing of continental origin contracted 21.02% by the lower extraction of species for consumption in fresh state, preparation of frozen and curing.
Mining and Hydrocarbons contracted in 7.47%
During June of 2024, the Mining and Hydrocarbons sector decreased in 7.47% due to the reduction of the metal-mining activity (-8.08%), associated to the low production of zinc (-20.9%), iron (-14.7%), copper (-12.0%), gold (-2.5%) and lead (-0.3%). Nevertheless, the production of molybdenum (24.6%), silver (6.1%) and tin (5.8%) increased.
The production of the hydrocarbons subsector reduced in 3.51% as a result of the lower production of natural gas (-10.2%) and of liquids of natural gas (-1.2%). On the other hand, the exploitation of crude oil grew in 1.5%.
Manufacturing sector grew in 0.18%
According to the figures provided by the Ministry of Production, the Manufacturing sector increased in 0.18%. By components, this result was based in the greater activity of the primary manufacturing subsector (10.66%), that was counterbalanced by the contractive behavior of the non-primary manufacturing subsector (-2.98%).
The positive performance of the primary manufacturing subsector was determined by the greater activity in the branch of the preparation and conservation of fish, crustaceans and molluscs (93.3%); preparation of sugar (31.6%); as well as the preparation and conservation of meat (2.0%). Nevertheless, the fabrication of products of the refining of oil (-4.2%) and manufacturing of primary products of precious metals and non-ferrous other metals (-2.7%) decreased.
The decrease of the non-primary manufacturing subsector was determined by the lower production of the industry of consumer goods (-5.17%) and capital goods (-13.17%). Meanwhile, the industry of intermediate goods (0.91%) increased.
Production of Electricity, Gas and Water sector increased 0.11%
The Electricity, Gas and Water sector grew 0.11% due to the greater production of water (2.38%). In the other hand, the generation of electric energy (-0.05%) and the distribution of gas (-6.03%) decreased. The greater production of potable water was registered in the following companies Seda Chimbote (7.3%), Epsel (4.4%), Sedalib (3.0%) and Sedapar (1.8%), among others.
In the contractive result of the electricity subsector influenced the lower generation of energy of thermoelectric origin (-14.33%); meanwhile that it increased the hydroelectric origin (17.17%) and non-conventional renewable energy (36.90%). The decrease of the gas distribution was determined by the lower demand of the Electric PowerStation (-11.3%) and the companies (-0.3%); on the other hand, it was registered a greater requirement of gas stations establishments of Vehicular Natural Gas (6.7%).
Construction sector decreased 2.40%
The INEI informed that the Construction sector contracted in 2.40%, reflected in the lower domestic cement consumption (-5.20%). Meanwhile that the increase of physical progress of public works (4.77%).
The negative result of the domestic cement consumption influenced the low level of progress of different types of construction projects of the private sector, as well as the lower works of self-construction. The increase of physical progress of public works was observed in the area of National and Regional government. According to type of work, increased the Works of prevention of risks and basic services. Nevertheless, the reduction of investment in construction of non-residential buildings and of road infrastructure.
Commerce sector increased in 2.28%
During June of 2024, the Commerce sector grew in 2.28% due to the good performance of the wholesale (2.86%), of textile products and clothing items, driven by the winter season; of textile products and clothing items, driven by the Winter season; of machinery and equipment intended to mining, construction, fishing and health; of fuel, mainly to the mining, fishing and air transportation sector; and of foods, beverages and tobacco, due to the greater supply of main products to markets and retail chains.
The retail sale increased in 2.71% observed in establishments of department stores, favoured by the employment of trade strategies in the occasion of the Father’s Day. In addition, the marketing of clothing items and the sale in supermarkets, increased. Nevertheless, the automotive trade (-3.35%) decrease before the lower demand of automotive vehicles and sale and maintenance of motorcycles.
Transportation, Storage and Courier Sector increased 5.55%
The production of Transportation, Storage and Courier sector increased in 5.55%, due to the positive result of the Transportation (5.39%), as well as the Storage and Courier (6.07%) subsectors.
In the growth of transportation subsector influenced the transportation area by road and pipping (2.2%), before the greater displacement of passengers by road (4.3%). In addition, the rail transportation invigorated (6.2%) due to the increase of the movement of passengers. On the other hand, the pipping transportation contracted (-6.4%), due to the lower extraction of natural gas and liquids of natural gas.
The transportation by air showed a positive variation (15.4%) due to the greater traffic of passengers and load. At the same time, the transportation by water grew (10.9%) associated to the greater transportation of load by marine transportation and of passengers by waterway. The positive variation of the storage and courier subsector was based in the greater postal and courier services (13.7%), as well as in the services of storage and support activities to the transportation (5.5%).
Accommodation and Restaurants sector grew in 4.66%
The Accommodation and Restaurants sector increased in 4.66% due to the dynamism of the restaurants subsector in 4.67% and the accommodation subsector in 4.44%. In the variation of the restaurant’s subsector influenced the favorable development of the establishments of restaurants (4.96%), of food services for transportation companies and concessionaires (4.97%) and beverages service (3,75%); nevertheless, the supply of foods ordered in advance (-27.57%).
In the group of restaurants increased in the areas of touristic restaurants, sandwich restaurants, fast foods, restaurants, grilled chicken restaurants (Pollerías), Chifas (Chinese restaurants), among others; due to the variety in gastronomic menu, discounts through digital wallets and extension of restaurants chains at national level.
Telecommunications and Other Services of Information sector increased in 3.21%
During June of 2024, Telecommunications and Other Services of Information sector grew in 3.21% due to the dynamism of the telecommunications (3.18%) and other services of information (3.43%) subsectors.
The positive performance of the telecommunications subsector was explained by the greater activity of Internet and pay television services (5.1%) and telephony services (2.5%).
On the other hand, the services of data transmission decreased (-4.2%). The positive behavior of Other Services of Information was supported by the increase of the production activities and screening of films and television programs film (7.0%), computer programming (3.8%) and of television and radio programming (3.5%); in contrast, the edition activities, decreased (-0.04%).
Financial and Insurance grew 0.05%
The INEI informed that the Financial and Insurance sector slightly increased in 0.05%, after 33 months of negative results, reflected in the greater deposits (5.88%) of the multiple banking and mortgage loans for housing (3.6%), linked to a slowly recovery of the corporate loan, even if they do not achieve to overcome the level of June 2023 (-1.3%). At the time, the consumption credits reduced (-3.3%).
On the other hand, in the positive result of the deposits of multiple banking observed advances in the area of demand deposits (11.3%), savings deposits (4.8%) and fixed-term deposits (3.2%). Meanwhile that the deposits by Term of Service Compensation Deposits decreased in 8.6%.
Services Provided to Companies sector increased in 3.21%
The Services Provided to Companies sector increased in 3.21%, due to the greater activity of travel agencies and tour operators (46.6%); advertising and market research (2.6%); administrative services and support to companies (1.8%); as well as professional, scientific and technical activities (1.6%).
Government Services grew in 3.93%
During June of 2024, the Government Services sector showed a progress of 3.93% in response to the greater activities develops by the institutions of National, Regional and Local Government. The services in the entities of the Public Administration increased in 3.9%, in the Defense sector 4.8% and in Other entities of the Government 3.3%.
