The National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI) governing body of the National Statistic System according to Specific Agreement of Interinstitutional Collaboration with the Ministry of Culture will execute the National Survey of Reading, 2022. The survey is intended to provide updated statistical information about the behavior, practices, motivations, assessment and representations that the residents have in Peru from 0 to 64 years old regarding to reading. The consumption of different publications in different formats and platforms, the access of library services in libraries, that allows stablishing indicators for the decision-making processes in politics, programs and projects. The survey will be applied in a sample of 20 880 households, distributed in the urban and rural area of the 24 departments of the Country and the Constitutional Province of Callao; and it will be carry out during the months of September, October and November of 2022, in order to have updated information, about the reading practices in Peru.

1. To know the reading behavior of the population between 0 to 64 years old, for the analysis and evaluation of public policies related with the reading, the consumption of publications and the participation in activities and spaces in support of reading.

2. To characterize the reading practice of persons aged 0 to 64 years old, since the reading frequency, the quantity of publications read, among other characteristics of this practice.

3. To describe the factors that influence in the reading practice: the literacy, the motivations for reading and non-reading, and the factors that influence in the election of publications.

4. To identify the consumption of books, newspapers and magazines (print and digital media), and other digital contents.

5. To investigate to the participation and the type of services used in the spaces in support of reading (library, fairs and book and reading festivals).

Interview method

It will be use the direct and person-to-person interview method, through the dialogue between the Interviewer and the regular resident Informers of the household aged 18 to 64 years old. The personnel will be duly trained for this end and will visit households during the period of collection of information, using a mobile device for the data collection.

For the opening of the interview the informer will be the household head, spouse or other regular resident member of the household aged 18 years old and older responsible and that knows the requested information in the survey.

For the chapter 300 “Characteristics of the interviewed person” and 400 “Reading Practices” the informers will be all the regular residents of the household aged 18 to 64 years old.

For the chapter 500 “Reading practices of the regular residents aged 0 to 17 years old” the informer will be person that know about the reading practices of this population (household chief/spouse/or husband or other qualifies person regular resident of the household aged 18 years old and older).

The collection of information of National Survey of Reading 2022 will be perform through a mobile device: “Tablet”. So it will be available a device of the physical questionnaire, which have all the variables to investigate.
