On February 28, Ambassador Cecilia Galarreta Bazán, Head of the Peruvian Mission in Thailand, paid a courtesy visit to the President of the National Assembly and Speaker of the House of Representatives of Thailand, Mr. Chuan Leekpai, historical leader of the Democrat Party and former Prime Minister of Thailand on two occasions (1992-1995 and 1997-2001).

During the audience, the Thai authority pointed out that, despite the great geographical distance between Thailand and Peru, the two countries are united not only by their millenary past but also by the close friendship they have developed as partners in various fields. Mr. Leekpai expressed his great appreciation for Peru and recalled his visit in 1999, when he received an honorary doctorate from the Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos.

For her part, the Ambassador of Peru highlighted the work being done by both countries to further strengthen economic and trade ties and cooperation in various fields, which is demonstrated by the establishment of the Parliamentary Friendship League between Peru and Thailand. Likewise, both authorities agreed on the importance of working together to achieve the entry of more fresh Peruvian products to the Thai market, given their high quality, as well as to identify new exchange opportunities based on the wealth of both countries, taking as examples the Thai silk and alpaca fiber.
