This evening, the ambassador of Peru in Thailand participated as an honorary witness to a signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the governor of Ayutthaya province and the country managing director of the ASEAN region of AJETHAI, part of the Peruvian AJE Group.

Through the aforementioned MOU, AJETHAI committed to collaborating with the government of the province of the former capital of Thailand in activities related to the protection and environmental sustainability of the “Historic City of Ayutthaya”, one of the most important historical monuments of Thailand, built over 500 years ago and which has just celebrated 30 years since it was incorporated into the UNESCO list as a World Heritage Site.

The signing of the MOU took place within the framework of a press conference—held in the historic city of Ayutthaya itself—in which both the governor, Mr. Weerachai Nakmas, and the country managing director of AJETHAI, Mr. Fabian Mosquera, made two separate presentations on the impact that this project will have on the citadel. Both highlighted the importance of the private sector’s support for this type of project, as well as the involvement of citizens and residents of the province in the defense and enhancement of this world heritage site.

During the press conference, a message from the director of UNESCO, Mr. Shigeru Aoyagi, was read out, emphasizing the importance of this initiative and calling for the implementation of the master plan for the administration and the conservation of the entire historic district.

The ambassador of Peru, Fernando Quiros, congratulated the signatories and UNESCO, emphasized the valuable contribution of the Peruvian company, AJETHAI, to the development of this country, and reminded that for several years, the company has been making a similar contribution in Peru through a project for solid waste treatment in the Inca citadel of Machu Picchu, also included on the UNESCO World Heritage list in 1993. The ambassador also emphasized Peru's commitment to climate change and environmental conservation.
