On August 7, the Embassy of Peru in Thailand held a reception followed by a musical concert to commemorate the 198th Anniversary of Peru's Independence. Around 260 people attended this important event, including members of the Diplomatic Corps accredited in Thailand, representatives of the Thai Government, businessmen, academics, media, friends of Peru and the Peruvian community residing in Thailand, who were delighted by the delicacies of the Peruvian gastronomy, tasted "Pisco Sour" and enjoyed music and dances from Peru.
After the reception, held in the halls of the Alliance Française Bangkok, the guests went to the auditorium to appreciate the concert and dances of “Apu Inka”. This activity is part of a tour of this artistic group, which was organized by the Peruvian Foreign Ministry and some Embassies and Consulates in Asia, to disseminate Peruvian culture and foster intercultural dialogue with this part of the world.
The presentation of "Apu Inka" allowed attendees to enjoy a most varied Peruvian musical repertoire, through the performance of representative pieces of the national folklore. Two dancers complemented the cast, captivating the audience with their graceful and colorful performance of dances from the coast, highlands and rain forest, while photographs that showed the landscapes and customs of Peru were being projected in the background.
The Peruvian musicians also performed two traditional Thai and one Peruvian composition, accompanied by musicians from the Mahidol University, who interpreted them with Thai folk instruments, achieving a perfect harmony and thus symbolizing the encounter between the cultures of both countries and materializing the objective of promoting "person to person" contacts.
Attendees commended the cultural presentation, as well as the tasting of fish ceviche, mango ceviche, “causa”, creamy chicken and chili, quinoa salad, mussels salad, empanadas and potatoes “huancaína” style prepared by the renowned Peruvian chef Omar Frank, under the auspices of “Above Eleven” bar-restaurant, who used Peruvian Hass avocados that can already be bought in Thai supermarkets.
The program of the music group “Apu Inka” includes two additional presentations in Bangkok before continuing to India, the last stage of its Asian tour.
