Peru and Thailand commemorate 55 years of Diplomatic Relations

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Thailand and the Embassy of Peru commemorate the 55th anniversary of the establishment of the diplomatic relations between both countries (1965-2020). As the main event, videos were presented with greeting messages from the Vice Ministers of Foreign Affairs, in which they highlighted the important achievements made in the bilateral relationship and renewed the commitment to continue strengthening the strategic partnership that has united them for over half a century.

During the ceremony, the Executive Director of the Thai space agency, GISTDA, signed the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between his institution and the Peruvian space agency, CONIDA. A video with emblematic moments of the 55 years of Peruvian-Thai relations was also shown.

Around 40 Thai guests from public and private sectors related to Peru assisted the event. Among them are the Director-General of Thailand International Cooperation Agency (TICA), the Vice Governor of the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT), the Executive Director of GISTDA, the Director-General of the Department of Trade Negotiations, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the President of the Thailand-Peru Parliamentarians Friendship Group, and the President of the Thailand – Latin America Business Council.

Also participating were senior officials from the Ministries of Commerce and Agriculture, Customs and Fisheries Departments, the three honorary consuls of Peru in Thailand (Chiang Mai, Khon Kaen and Hat Yai), representatives of business associations, the main companies that import Peruvian products, as well as academics, artists and journalists.

The "Memorandum of Understanding on Space Technologies and Applications" signed between Thailand's Geo-Informatics and Space Technology Development Agency (GISTDA) and Peru's National Commission for Aerospace Research and Development (CONIDA) - the first of its kind to be signed by Thailand with a Latin American country - will make cooperation between both institutions possible in areas such as space technologies, earth observation, software development for satellite applications, among others. On 3 November, in Lima, the MOU had been signed by CONIDA's CEO in the presence of Thailand's ambassador to Peru.
