Resumen

Ambassador Alfredo Ferrero is a renowned Peruvian attorney and politician, specialized in commercial and corporate law, trade, arbitration, and negotiations. He obtained his law degree summa cum laude from the Pontifical Catholic University of Peru, holds a master’s degree in law (LLM) from Harvard Law School (1987) and also studied at Georgetown University and the International Law Institute. 

Appointed as Minister of Foreign Trade and Tourism, previously served as Vice Minister of International Trade Negotiations (1999- 2003). As Minister he was in charge of the preparation and implementation of the strategic National Export Plan (PENX), the Strategic Tourism Plan (PENTUR), and the conclusion of negotiations with Thailand and Singapore, the first free trade agreementssigned by Peru with countries from Asia. 

In April 2006, Ambassador Ferrero signed for Peru the Free Trade Agreement with the United States after 3 years of negotiations, obtaining the approval by the Peruvian Congress in June of the same year. 

Additionally, Ambassador Ferrero has been President of the board of directors of Prompex and Promperu, President of the National Controller Court # 1 of Peru, member of the board as director of the Andean Financing Corporation (CAF), Proinversion and CORPAC, and also member of the Indecopi Free Competition Court. 

Furthermore, he has represented Peru as chief negotiator in the Andean Community, APEC and the WTO. He has been member of the board of directors of several companies in sectors such as mining, infrastructure, electricity, finances, insurance broker and consulting committee for Toyota, Microsoft, APM Terminal (Maersk Group), the Peruvian soccer association (FPF), etc. 

Author of the book “Historias de un Desafio” (Histories of a challenge) which narrates the efforts to negotiate and signing of the Free Trade Agreement with the United States. He was columnist of Peruvian newspaper Peru 21 for more than 17 years, and he has written articles for several other newspapers and magazines. He taught Business Law at Catholic University and Lima University and has participated as speaker and panelist in many forums and conferences. 

Ambassador Ferrero has four children: Francesca, Antonella, Alfredo and Rodrigo. His main hobbies are soccer, NBA, reading and music.
