Wiñaypacha (Eternity) at the XV Ibero-American Film Showcase: Diversities

The Embassy of Peru is thrilled to invite you to join us for a screening of the award-winning film "Wiñaypacha" (Eternity, 2019) by Oscar Catacora. This is the first-ever Peruvian feature film entirely recorded in Aymara, an indigenous and traditional language spoken in the southern Peruvian departments of Puno, Moquegua, and Tacna.
The film tells the captivating story of Milla and Phaxsi, an elderly couple living in a remote location in the Peruvian Andes, over 5,000 meters above sea level. They face poverty and the relentless passage of time, desperately praying for their only son to come and rescue them.
"Wiñaypacha" (Eternity) has received numerous accolades, including the Best First Feature and Mayahuel Award for Best Photography at the 33rd Guadalajara International Film Festival (Mexico). It also received an honorable mention at the International Film Festival of the Heights of Jujuy (Argentina).
Moreover, the film won the Fiction Feature Film Project Contest exclusive to regions (2013) and the National Distribution Project Contest (2017) organized by the Ministry of Culture.
In 2018, the movie was selected to represent Peru at the prestigious American and Spanish film academies' awards, known as the Oscars and Goya Awards, respectively.

This screening is part of the XV Ibero-American Film Showcase, dedicated this year to celebrating diversity. The event is organized by the Ibero-American Cultural Attachés Association (AACIA), a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting the rich cultures, traditions, and artists from Latin America, Spain, and Portugal.
The nineteen cultural attachés members in Washington, D.C. are fostering alliances and forging relationships with all stakeholders in the fields of culture, art, and education in the United States of America.
