INEI strengthens capabilities of the PNP to the statistical exploitation of police records

The National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI) culminated the second workshop “Statistics Applied to the Collection and Interpretation of Data”, with the training of 50 police officials to the Direction of Criminal (DIRINCRI) of the National Police of Peru in the management, validation and interpretation of statistical data obtained of police administrative records.
During the closing ceremony, that involved the participation of the chief of the INEI, Dr. Gaspar Morán Flores, and authorities of the DIRINCRI, it highlighted the importance to strengthen the use of quality information to optimize the business processes and to contribute to a more effective management of the citizen security.
“In the INEI we believe that the quality information is fundamental to better decision-making and to strengthen the work of the institutions. For this reason, we are pleased to contribute to the strengthening of the capabilities of the National Police of Peru”, stated the institutional chief of the INEI, Dr. Gaspar Morán Flores.
The workshop was developed from May 4 to June 3 under the theoretical and practical approach based in the Generic Statistical Business Process Model (GSBPM), allowing the participants to strengthen their knowledge in collection, depuration, validation and data interpretation, as well as in the generation of indicators and visualization of information for operational purposes.
During the training, police officials developed competencies to optimize the collection processes and consistency of information, to reduce errors in the database, to generate and interpretate rates, trends and patterns related with the criminality.
At the end of the workshop of 50 teaching hours, the participants consolidate knowledges and tools to prepare diagnosis and analytical reports that contribute to a most efficient management of the information coming from police records for the decision-making in the labors of criminal research.
