With the aim of facilitating the access to statistical information of the country and improve the monitoring of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG), the National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI) presented the new Monitoring and Follow-up System of the SDG’s Indicators version 2.0, digital tools that will allow to visualize the progresses in health, education, poverty, gender equality, environment and other subjects linked to the 2030 Agenda.
The system replaces the previous mechanisms of static consultation and incorporates dynamic and interactive tools that improves the access to key information for authorities, researchers, academicians and citizenship in general. In addition, it incorporates a technological architecture that strengthen the security, scalability and efficiency in data management.
The chief of the INEI, Dr. Gaspar Morán Flores, highlighted that this tool will strengthen the monitoring the commitments made by Peru within the framework of the 2030 Agenda. Likewise, he also stated that almost the 51% of the SDG’s indicators already has already available information, reflecting the important progresses in the technical capacity and in the statistical infrastructure of the country.
Since 2016, the INEI leads the statistical monitoring of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals, making available to authorities, researchers, academicians and citizenship, information for the monitoring of the 20230 Agenda.
Characteristics of the new system
The new Monitoring and Follow-up System of the SDG’s Indicators allows user-friendly access to the 17 objectives, 169 goals and 251 indicators that are part of the 2030 Agenda for the Sustainable Development.
The system includes monitoring tools and statistical dissemination for the population in general, as well as a specific module on childhood and adolescence (0 to 17 years old). In addition, it incorporates historic series of more than ten years ago, updated as of 2024 to 2025, according to statistical source.
The information is presented through tables, interactive graphics, dynamic maps, metadata, sampling errors and sub-indicators, which allows a more detailed and transparent statistical analysis. Likewise, it makes easy the unload of information in PDF and Excel formats.
ENAHO, main source of system information
The National Household Survey (ENAHO) constitutes one of the main sources of information of the monitoring system of the SDG, by contributing with almost the 50% of the indicators generated based in the surveys.
In total, 61.3 % of the indicators comes from censuses and surveys, meanwhile that the 38.7% corresponds to administrative records, with outstanding participation of the Ministry of Health.
Indicators of childhood and adolescence
The new system incorporates a monitoring module of the SDGs linked to the childhood and adolescence, that integrates information of different entities of the State to measure the progress of the country towards the 2030 Agenda.
This module considers 13 priority objectives and includes indicators on living conditions, education, health, protection and participation, with the purpose of strengthening the decision making and guiding public policies in favour of girls, boys and adolescents.
Benefit for researchers, academicians and public in general
The modernization of the system will allow the officials of the INEI to manage and update the contents in the most effective way, through administrative tools and mechanisms of tracing of changes.
Likewise, researchers, academicians and international organisms could access to metadata, methodological definitions and disaggregated databases for studies and specialized analysis.
On the other hand, the public in general will be able to consult information from mobile devices, tablets or computers, to access interactive graphics and unload information in PDF and Excel formats.
The INEI, as governing body of the National Statistic System (SEN), makes available this information through its institutional web portal (https://ods.inei.gob.pe/), where you may also display the specific module of indicators on childhood and adolescence.
Finally, the chief of the INEI outstood that this system will contribute to the strengthen of technical capabilities and a greater institutional articulation, with the purpose of promoting public policies based in reliable and timely statistical information.
