Ucayali: INEI will develop health indicators of mothers and children under five years old in the department

With the aim of ensuring and monitoring key indicators related to maternal and child health for the year 2026, the National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI) has been collecting information in 1,300 households of the department of Ucayali, within the framework of the Demographic and Family Health Survey (ENDES).
The ENDES that is been continuously executed across the country, it has a national sample of 36,760 households and keeps representativeness at national level, urban-rural, regional and departmental, which allows to identify the health gaps and to orient the decision-making in public policies.
100% coverage during the first quarter of the year
In the case of Ucayali, during the first quarter of 2026 reached to the 100% coverage of households and conglomerates programmed, with 95 households visited. Likewise, high levels of response were registered in the different survey modules, outstanding the 96.7% in individual interviews to women of 12 to 49 years and the 100% in anthropometric measurements and hemoglobin in children under five years old.
The chief of the INEI, Gaspar Morán Flores, during the supervision of the survey, stated that these progresses reflect not only the commitment of the field personnel, but also the disposition of the citizenship to participate in this statistical research national scope.
Key information for public policies
The Demographic and Family Health Survey (ENDES) is one of the main information sources for the design, monitoring and evaluation of public policies in health, as well as the monitoring of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). It develops indicators on anemia and child malnutrition, maternal and child mortality, access to vaccines, violence against women and non-communicable and communicable diseases.
Technological innovations in the fieldwork
The chief of the INEI stated that it has been incorporated tablets for digital data collection and portable bio-medical equipment that allow to measure weight, height, hemoglobin and blood pressure, giving immediately results in the households, Likewise, monitoring devices and monitoring system were used in real time to strengthen the quality control of the information.
Technical work in field
At national level, the ENDES is executed by 75 work equipment composed by almost 300 professionals. In Ucayali, works two work teams in charge of the data collection in the department.
The ENDES carries out since 1986 and in a continuous way since 2024, being an essential tool to know the health situation of the country and to contribute to the improvement of the quality of life of the population.
