42.8% of the households have at least one old adult person during the fourth quarter of the year 2025

Based in the technical report Situation of Older Adult Population, prepared with the result of the National Household Survey (ENAHO) stated that, during the fourth quarter of the year 2025, 42.8% of the households of the country has at least one person of 60 years old and older, increasing in 0.8 percentage point, compared to the same quarter of the last year (42.0%).


In addition, informed that 40.3% of the households of the res turban area have an older adult person and presented a variation of 2.1 percentage points, compared to the same quarter of the year 2024 (38.2%), followed by the rural area with a growth of 1.9 percentage points, by going from 44.2% to 46.1%. On the other hand, it reduced in 1.8 percentage points, the households of Lima Metropolitan area with population of 60 years old and older, by going from 46.2% to 44.4%.


Older adult population with some chronic health problem that sought medical attention reached 41.1%
During the fourth quarter of 2025, 41.1% of the population of 60 years old and older with some chronic health problem sought medical attention, a higher figure in 1.9 percentage points, compared to the same quarter of the year 2024 (39.2%).


By residence area, the greater percentage growth was registered in the rural area by going from 38.9% to 41.4% (2.5 percentage points). Followed by the rest urban area with a positive variation of 2.4 percentage points by going from 38.0% to 40.4% and in Lima Metropolitan area increased by 0.9 percentage point, by going from 40.9% to 41.8%.

16.6% of the older adult population with some health problem went to establishments of the Ministry of Health
From October to December of 2025, from the total of the older adult population with some health problem that sought medical attention, 16.6% went to establishments of the Ministry of Health (MINSA), followed by 9.8% that were admitted in the Social Health Insurance (EsSalud), 8.2% sought medical attention in pharmacy or apothecary and 4.9% decided to visit a private practice, among the main ones.


In Lima Metropolitan area, the place or establishment of greater consultation was the MINSA MINSA (15.9%), followed by EsSalud (13.9%), pharmacy or apothecary (5.1%) and private practice (5.0%). In the rest urban area, the greater proportion of this population group went to MINSA establishments (11.9%), followed by EsSalud (11.2%), pharmacy or apothecary (10.3%) and in private practice (5.9%). At the same time, the population of the rural area went to MINSA establishments MINSA (27.1%) and pharmacy or apothecary (8.5%), among the main ones.

94.5% of the population of 60 years old and older accessed to some type of health insurance
During the fourth quarter of 2025, 94.5% of the older adult population of 60 years old and older had some type of health insurance (being public or private). The greater coverage of this health service was observed in Lima Metropolitan area (94.7%), followed by the rural area (94.5%) and in the rest of urban area (94.4%).


According to type of health insurance, 55.8% of the older adult population was only affiliated to the Comprehensive Health Insurance (SIS) and increased in 1.5 percentage points, compared to the same quarter of the year 2024 (54.3%). On the other hand, the affiliation to EsSalud (34.5%) decreased in 0.3 percentage point.

43.0% of persons with some disability are older adults
During the quarter under analysis, from the total of the population that had some disability, 43.0% are older adult persons (60 years old and older).


By sex, from the total of the female population with some disability, 50.7% are women of 60 years old and older. In the case of older adult men, this percentage reaches the 35.9%; which represented a difference of 14.8 percentage points, in which it was observed that older adult women are those that had some type of disability.


Older adult population with some disability was greater in rural area (52.3%), compare to the urban area (40.5%). According to age group, the greater incidence was registered among the population of 71 years old and older (27.8%), that in that registered in those that are 60 and 70 years old (15.2%).
