National production increased by 3.54% during January of 2026

During the first month of 2026, national production grew 3.54% compared to the same month of 2025, due to the positive performance of the majority of productive sectors, among the sectors that outstood were: Construction, Other Services, Commerce and Mining and Hydrocarbons, that explain more than the 60% of the global result. In addition, by Services of Government; Agribusiness; Accommodation and Restaurants; Transportation, Storage and Courier; Services Provided to Companies; Electricity, Gas and Water; as well as Telecommunications. On the other hand, Manufacturing, Fishing and Financial sector registered favourable behavior.

In the technical report National Production, prepared by the National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI), also informed that during the annualized period February 2025 – January 2026, the productive activity of the country increased 3.38%, compared to the same period of the last year.

During January of 2026, the Agribusiness sector increased by 3.99%, compared to the same month of the year 2025, driven by the agriculture subsector (5.64%), before the greater volumes of tomato (63.4%), oil palm (51.3%), paddy rice (23.3%), avocado (14.1%), potato (14.1%), hard yellow corn (12.9%) and yuca (11.0%) production; explained by the greater area sown of the main agriculture products and influenced by favourable weather factors (normal to superior temperatures).

Likewise, the livestock subsector grew by 1.75%, due to the greater volumes of swine (3.9%), fresh milk (2.2%), poultry (1.8%) and beef cattle (1.7%) production.

During the month under analysis, the Fishing sector reduced by 9.56%, compared to the same month of the year 2025, due to the lower landing of species of maritime origin (-7.19%) destined to indirect human consumption (for fishmeal and fish oil), by registering the capture of 293 279 tons, against the 508 202 tons extracted in January 2025, registered a decrease of 42.29%. During January of 2026, were registered 17 days of effective fishing, meanwhile that in the same month of 2025 were registered 22 days of effective fishing, situation registered in the north and center ports of the coastline.

On the other hand, the landing for direct human consumption was greater by 36.49% in two of its four destinations: frozen (75.6%) and in fresh state (13.0%); nevertheless, it decreased for the preparation of curing (-32.2%) and preparation of caning (-24.1%). On the other hand, the fishing of continental origin decreased 34.51% due to the effect of the lower capture of species for consumption in fresh state (-35.2%) and frozen (-39.4%).

During the first month of this year, the Mining and Hydrocarbons sector grew by 3.08%, compare to January of 2025, due to the positive result of the metal-ming (3.31%) and hydrocarbons (1.46%) subsectors.

In the mining-metallic subsector was registered a greater extraction of copper (2.7%), zinc (14.7%), gold (4.0%), silver (4.5%), iron (1.2%), lead (2.3%) and tin (4.0%); on the other hand, the production of molybdenum decreased (-4.1%). In the positive performance of the hydrocarbon’s subsector (1.46%) influenced the increase of the production of natural gas liquids (9.5%) and natural gas (13.0%); meanwhile, the volume of crude oil reduced (-18.5%).

During January of 2026, the Manufacturing sector contracted by 1.45% compared to the same month of the year 2025, according to figures of the Ministry of Production, determined by the negative result of the non-primary manufacturing subsector (-2.16%), partially counterbalanced by the increase of the primary manufacturing subsector (0.42%).

In the unfavourable behavior of the non-primary manufacturing subsector influenced the reduction of the production in the industry of consumption goods (-3.71%) and intermediate goods (-0.04%); nevertheless, the industry of capital goods grew (7.97%).

The positive performance of the primary manufacturing subsector was based in the greater production of the primary products of precious metals and other non-ferrous metals (11.7%), manufacture of products of the oil refining (2.4%), as well as the preparation and preserving of meat (1.8%). Nevertheless, the level of activity of the branches of processing and preserving of fish, crustaceans and molluscs (-16.4%) and preparation of sugar (-2.7%).

The production of Electricity, Gas and Water sector was higher in 3.97% compared to January of 2025, explained by the positive result of the electricity (4.33%), gas (2.61%) and water (1.48%) subsector. The increase of the electricity subsector was registered in the energy sector of thermoelectric origin energy by 26.88% and non-conventional renewable origin energy (wind-solar) by 13.10%, meanwhile that the hydroelectric energy contracted by 6.11%.

The growth of the gas subsector explained by the greater demand of the Companies by 13.6%, of the vehicular natural gas (VNG) refueling stations by 2.1% and Power stations by 1.3%. In the increase of the potable water production contributed the greater volume of production of the following companies: Agua Tumbes (16.0%), EPS Grau (9.5%) and Sedapal (1.1%); nevertheless, it decreased the generation of Sedachimbote S.A. (-3.8%), EPS Sedam Huancayo S.A., (-4.0%) and EPS Sedaloreto (-6.6%), among the main ones.

During the first month of 2026, the Construction sector increased by 15.63% compared to the same month of the last year, reflected in the greater domestic cement consumption (13.64%) and the physical progress of public works (24.51%).

The increase of the domestic cement consumption was driven by the dynamism in works of the private sector that included in infrastructure projects for the mining, hydrocarbons, education, electric, real estate projects and self-construction sector, among others. The physical progress of public works grew in the three spheres of government such as Regional, Local and National; according to type of work, it outstood the works of road infrastructure, basic services, as well as the investment in works of risk prevention and in construction of non-residential buildings.

During the month under analysis, the Commerce sector grew 4.33%, compared to the same month of the last year, mainly explained due to the wholesale trade by 2.94%, as a result of the growing sale of agribusiness raw materials and of life animals before the recovery of the commercialization of grains and seeds; inputs for animal nutrition and poultry benefitted; household goods due to greater demand of pharmaceutical and medicinal products; personal care products and home cleaning; stationary items; books and white goods before tender offers and best deals. Metals and minerals showed a solid performance, based in the high demand of copper, gold and zinc, and fuel before the dynamism of the vehicle fleet.

The retail trade increased by 4.67% due to the greater activity reported in department stores due to strategic summer and preschool campaigns; gas stations and self-services store for incorporation of new customers before the greater seasonal influx; pharmaceutical and cosmetics products favoured by the summer campaign and super-markets, mini-markets and convenience stores, due to the greater inventory turnover in the food and beverages categories, as well as new sales points.

The automotive commerce increased by 13.83%, explained by the sale of light-duty, heavy-duty and small vehicles associated to the dynamism of the campaigns and availability of credit, in addition the greater orders of pneumatics, lightning equipment and electric pieces before the growing vehicle fleet.

During January 2026, the production of the Transportation, Storage and Courier sector increased by 2.12% in response to the greater activity of the transportation (2.38%), as well as storage and messaging (1.52%) subsectors.

The positive result of the transportation subsector answered to the greater demand of transportation by road and pipping (1.62%), reflected in a greater traffic by road by 1.57%; both of passengers (2.5%) such as load (0.4%); likewise, the pipping transportation observed a positive variation of 6.4%, due to the greater production of natural gas and liquids of natural gas. Nevertheless, the transportation by road decreased by 7.4%, due to the lower movement of load and passengers. The transportation by air grew 4.20%, due to the great movement of load and passengers at international level.

Transportation by waterways negatively varied by 4.12%, affected by the lower transportation of cargo by waterways (-9.0%); meanwhile the transportation by river grew 3.0%, due to the greater movement of passengers and cargo.

Storage and Courier subsector grew (1,52%) due to the progress of storage and support activities to the transportation (1.6%) and post and courier services (0.5%).

During the first month of this year, Accommodation and Restaurants sector increased by 5.70%, compared to the same month of the year 2025. Contributed to this result the growth of the restaurants (5.97%) and accommodation (3.20%) subsectors.

The performance of the restaurant’s subsector was associated to the restaurant’s activities (5.89%), beverage service (13.45%) and the service of food for companies of transportation and concessionaires (2.34%); nevertheless, it contracted the activities of supply of foods by demand (-4.67%). Among the business that registered the greater activity outstood the sandwich restaurants, international food, meats and grills, pollerías (grilled chicken restaurants), fast foods, cevicherías (seafood restaurants), among others.

During January of 2026, Telecommunication and Other Services of Information sector registered a positive performance of 0.60%, due to the dynamism of the telecommunications subsector (0.81%); nevertheless, the other services of information subsector was affected (-1.02%).

In the evolution of the telecommunications subsector influenced the greater activity of the Internet services and subscription TV that registered 8.7%; on the other hand, the telephone (-4,9%) and data transmission (-2.3%) services decreased.

The other services of information subsector registered a lower television and radio programming (-2.7%), edition services (-1.3%), production and exhibition of movies and TV programs (-1.1%) and computer programing (-0.5%).

During the month under analysis, the production index of the Financial and Insurance sector registered a reduction of 0.42%, compared to January of 2025. This was due to the lower granting of credits (-1.55%) and deposits (-4.69%) in foreign currency.

According to components, the Financial Companies negatively contributed in the result of the sector, due to the contraction of its credits (-17.99%) and deposits (-12.24%). According to type of credit, it was observed falls in the consumption credits (-31.1%) and mortgage credits for dwelling (-9.3%). Regarding the deposits, the decrease was mainly associated to time deposits (-25.2%).

On the other hand, in the Multiple Banking was observed a reduction in the credits destined to big companies (-7.20%), medium companies (-1.96%) and micro-enterprises (-15.62%).

During January 2026, the sector Service Provided to Companies increased by 3.68%, favoured by advertising and market research (7.0%), activities of administrative and support services (3.8%), travel agencies and tour operators (3.7%) and professional, scientific and technical activities (3.1%).

During January of the current year, the government services registered an increase of 4.07%, explained by greater activities performed by institutions of the Public Administration (4.1%), Defense (3.5%) and Other Services of Government (1.9%).
