Traffic flow of vehicles at national level increased 3.9% in February of 2024

The National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI), informed that during the month of February of 2024, the National Rate of Vehicular Flow the one that reports the movement of light-duty and heavy-duty units through the tollbooths of the country increased 3.9% compared to the same month of 2023.

In the technical report Vehicular Flow by Tollbooths indicates that the monthly result was based in the greater traffic flow of light-duty vehicles (5.7%) and in lower percentage the traffic flow of heavy-duty vehicles (1.2%). It is worth to mention that during the last twelve months (March 2023 - February 2024) grew in 2.5%.
 
Traffic flow of light duty units increased in 5.7%
During the month of February of 2024, the traffic flow of light duty vehicles registered through the tollbooths of the country was greater in 5.7%, influenced by recreational activities during school holidays, technical and university students; added to the carnival celebration, patron saints feast and gastronomic fairs in the capital and the interior of the country, that caused the transportation of national and foreign tourists.
 
The toollbooths that registered the greatest traffic flow were, in the north, in La Libertad (Virú 5.7% and Chicama 0.8%), Piura (Chulucanas 5.2%), Áncash (Huarmey 3.8%), San Martín (Aguas Claras 3.6% and Pongo 3.6%), Cajamarca (Pomahuaca-Pucará 1.5%) and Lambayeque (Diversion Olmos 0.6%).
 
In the center, Lima (Corcona 15.4%, Fortaleza 10.3%, Variant of Pasamayo 5.3% and El Paraíso 2.2%) and Junín (Quiulla 10.7%, Casaracra 2.5%); and in the south, Ica (Marcona 962.9%, Jahuay Chincha 11.1%), Puno (Santa Lucía 8.8%), Moquegua (Pampa Cuéllar 101.7 and Ilo 7.4%) and Arequipa (Patahuasi 66.7% and Matarani-Concesión 4.3%).
 
Traffic flow of heavy-duty vehicles increased in 1.2%
During the month of February of 2024, the traffic flow of heavy-duty vehicles increased in 1.2% compared to the same month of 2023. This behavior answers to the greater demand of the service of cargo transport.
  
The tollbooths with greater traffic flow were, in the north, Piura (Loma Larga Baja 8.3%), San Martín (Moyobamba 3.6% and Aguas Claras 3.5%) and La Libertad (Chicama 0.6%). In the center, Junín (Quiulla 15.7% and Casaracra 0.8%) and Lima (Variant of Pasamayo 8.2%, Corcona 7.6%, Serpentín of Pasamayo 5.6%, Fortaleza 1.5% and El Paraíso 1.5%); and in the south, Ica (Marcona 902.4% and Jahuay Chincha 0.9%), Puno (Santa Lucía 809.3%), Moquegua (Pampa Cuéllar 231.6% and Ilo 5.1%), Arequipa (Patahuasi 48.0%, Matarani-Concesión 38.9% and Uchumayo-Concesión 17.1%) and Ayacucho (Pampa Galera 5.9%).  
 
Traffic Flow of heavy vehicles for loading of 3 to 7 axle increased in 2.3%
During February of 2024, the traffic flow of heavy vehicles for loading of 3 to 7 axle grew in 2.3% compared to the same month of 2023, explained by the increased traffic flow of heavy-duty units such as trailers, semi-trailers and heavy trucks for loading of 3 axle (14.8%), 4 axle (2.1%), 5 axle (10.4%) and 7 axle (5.4%); meanwhile, the vehicles of 6 axle reported a lower traffic flow (-6,3%).
